Moon Milk: a Moon Milk recipe - (2024)

Mond Milch, advertising – cooperation with AdeZ

Moon Milk is currently one of the biggest food trends on social media. Everywhere you see the colorful cups of mystical moon milk. It is much more unusual than the traditional latte and comes in all variations decorated with flowers, spices and herbs. But where does the hype actually come from?

Was ist Moon Milk?

Moon milk has its origins in Ayurvedic cuisine. Ayurvedic medicine is a 5,000 year old healing system. It stands for the knowledge of life and places a strong focus on detoxifying the body and activating its self-healing powers. However, it must be noted that many people doubt the effectiveness of Ayurvedic medicine because there is little solid evidence about its functionality. However, I personally have to say that I think the approach is great and the selected spices, which are a large part of Ayurveda, definitely have a positive effect on the body.

Essentially, Moon Milk contains many spices that are very popular in Ayurvedic cuisine. These include, for example, ginseng, turmeric, ginseng, dried rose petals, pepper or nutmeg.

Properties of Moon Milk

Many say that Moon Milk is supposed to help you fall asleep because the ingredients are said to have a particularly sleep-promoting effect. Drinking warm milk with honey before going to bed was my grandma's insider tip. This variation of the drink is a little more unusual, but is said to have the same calming effect.

The ingredient that sets this special recipe apart is ashwagandha, which is perhaps better known as Indian ginseng or sleepberry.

I researched this mystical herb on the internet and found out that it belongs to the nightshade family and, as the name sleepberry suggests, is said to help reduce stress and help you fall asleep better. The herb is also said to have positive effects on blood sugar levels and brain function. It is also said to help with anxiety and depression, as well as reduce cortisol levels in the body and have anti-inflammatory properties.

Which base is best for the drink?

I have tried the recipe in various forms. In order to preserve the holistic aspect of Ayurvedic cuisine, I decided to use a lactose-free base for this drink. At the moment I'm not a fan of animal milk anyway because I'm simply of the opinion that people of a certain age should no longer consume so much milk and have replaced the milk with my favorite plant-based drinksAdeZexchanged. These are simply perfect for moon milk.
I love the creamy and soft consistency of AdeZ's alternative plant drinks and the natural sweetness! I have already tried all three varieties of Moon Milk: Rockin’ Rice, Surprising Soy and Amazing Almond! I liked it best with the Rockin’ Rice Drink, but I think that’s a matter of taste. You can definitely make the Moon Milk recipe with all three varieties.

Advantages of AdeZ

I've tried many alternative plant-based drinks and so far I haven't really been satisfied with any of them. Either they tasted completely pale and boring, the consistency wasn't right, or the milk curdled in my recipes. None of that happens at AdeZ and that's why I love these drinks!

Here are a few bullet points with my personal AdeZ highlights:

  • No added sugar! The drinks still taste slightly sweet thanks to the natural stevia.
  • They contain extra calcium, vitamin D and B12 and therefore the same vitamins and minerals as cow's milk.
  • AdeZ drinks are lactose-free and are perfect for a vegan diet
  • The bottle is a PlantBottleTM. This means you reduce your plastic waste because it consists of up to 30% plant material and is completely recyclable.
  • The milk doesn't curdle when you heat it! That means you can use it perfectly for your morning coffee or for hot drinks like the Moon Milk, which I'll show you in a moment.

Moon Milk Rezept

Now let me explain to you how to prepare moon milk. In principle it is all very simple. Nevertheless, the recipe contains two slightly more exotic ingredients. TheAshwagandhapowder andblue spirulinaPowder. You can easily order both online. As mentioned above, Ashwagandha is the typical ingredient of moon milk. However, if you don't have it at home or want to get it, you can leave it out. The Moon Milk still tastes really delicious.

All you have to do is take a large pot and slowly heat all the ingredients. Stir well and bring to the boil briefly.

If you don't have dry, grated ginger at home, you can also grate fresh ginger very finely and stir it into the recipe.

Here I have summarized the recipe for you in a printable version for 2 servings:

Variations of the recipe

I made my moon milk with blue spirulina powder. But there are many different variations that you can try out. Many of my food blogger friends make moon milk with cherry juice and beetroot powder. This gives you a beautiful pink tone. If you leave that out and use turmeric instead, your drink will be golden yellow. So you see, there are no limits to your imagination.

I hope you enjoyed this post and give the recipe a try. If you are looking for more interesting recipes with the plant drinks from AdeZ, then I can still think of youFeigenporridgeand thatMarillen parfaitsrecommend. Take a look.
